Your Mission:
The Senior Revenue Accountant manages multiple revenue functions and provides meaningful insight for financial analysis. We ask that you are a person who is comfortable with detail and managing a variety of responsibilities while working to provide a high level of value to our partners across the business. We are looking for an experienced professional with a full understanding of technical accounting; who can resolve issues in creative ways. This job is a career-oriented, journey-level position that reports to the Revenue Recognition Accounting Manager.
Your Responsibilities
Ensure accurate revenue recognition following our revenue recognition policy, ASC 606, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Implement controls and evaluate actions required for compliance with our revenue recognition accounting process, including the bookings, billings and forecasting process. Perform analysis to ensure accuracy and proper revenue recognition. Review and support all team disclosures. Ensure compliance with important controls and accurate GAAP reporting and fulfill internal and external reporting requirements, including driving automation within our reporting functions.
Partner with the Commercial Accounting and Sales functions to improve contract structure under ASC 606. Analyze customer contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment, including identification of performance obligations, allocation of transaction price, and determination of revenue recognition timing. Manage accounting related our contracts and their impact to forecasting functions.
Perform technical accounting research and prepare documentation around complex revenue recognition accounting issues. Collaborate with multiple teams, including sales, legal, and product, to provide guidance on revenue recognition possible effects of business transactions, new product offerings, and pricing strategies.
Manage monthly and quarterly close process including monitoring, review, and analysis of revenue and reporting activity. Complete all required month-end close activities including revenue reconciliation and management reporting. Reconcile Balance Sheet items and prepare required adjusting entries.
Perform in-depth analysis of revenue-related accounts, identify trends, and provide insights to management regarding revenue performance and potential risks. This includes working on problems of diverse scope where analysis
Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting or Finance.
1-2 years public accounting audit experience (or 2-4 years of a mix of public and private experience) with preferably a focus on revenue recognition.
Experience at a global SaaS company preferred or enterprise software company with many multiple element arrangements.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Strong technical accounting skills and exposure to revenue recognition rules under U.S. GAAP.
Experience researching accounting literature to resolve complex U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 technical issues, while communicating accounting standards to financial and non-financial personnel.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SalesForce, Workday, Tableau, Blackline) and advanced MS excel (can perform complex functions) skills, and experience with revenue automation tools.
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex contracts and apply revenue recognition guidance.
Comfortable with communicating in both written and verbal formats.
Experience with analyzing and consolidating large data files.
Preference to work with little instruction on daily work.
The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York City. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region. The base salary pay range for this position is $79,500 to $106,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata’s non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
