Position: The Sr. Manager, Global Strategic Sourcing, Transportation & Logistics will lead cost reduction efforts, management of supply, and development of overall CMCO global Transportation & Logistics (T&L) sourcing / procurement strategies for indirect spend categories.
Location: Ballantyne, NC
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Development of global strategies that enable the identification and sourcing of suppliers, products, and services at best-in-class quality, price, delivery, and service levels.
Develop, plan and execute transportation and distribution network in the Americas. This will strongly focus on US-Mexico-US transportation and distribution.
Develop, plan, and execute transportation and distribution network for intra-Europe.
Evaluation of supplier quotations and sourcing of services in line with procurement and distribution strategies.
Preparation, review, and negotiation of bids, proposals, contracts, and strategic supplier agreements for accuracy and compliance with CMCO terms, pricing, and specifications.
Leadership of ongoing cost reduction initiatives with contracted and non-contracted suppliers/carriers and indirect spend commodities.
Analysis of market conditions and supplier quality and delivery performance to determine present and future strategy, tactics, and pricing. Includes data mining, retrieval, manipulation and analysis.
Regular communication of this information to internal stakeholders and the development of solutions that mitigate risks associated with any bottlenecks or constraints.
Design, implementation, management, and monitoring of procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements and improve sourcing T&L and Indirect Spend processes.
Subject matter expertise in domestic and international freight: ocean, truckload, LTL and parcel, logistics and warehousing.
Establish global spend visibility to clearly define related T&L and Indirect spend.
Collects and analyzes internal/external category data, metrics, and reports to track performance against targets.
Identify cost savings opportunities across T&L and indirect spend categories.
Creation and leadership of a global team to leverage best practices.
Identify, mentor, and develop talent.
Manage and lead compliance for all import and export activities in North America.
Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
Specific experience in managing freight and logistics strategies and category partners.
Expertise with LTL, FTL, Cross Docking, 3PL, Small Parcel Shipping, international, domestic NA and domestic EU working knowledge and understanding of freight management tools, 3rd party, bid boards, scheduling, tracking, etc.
Operated in a global capacity, engagement in fulfillment and logistics in multiple geographies.
Strong project leadership experience with a diversity of team skills.
Experience working with suppliers to develop project plans.
Experience working with international companies and in matrix organizations.
Experience in strategic planning, budgeting and financial reporting.
Strong listening, coaching and influencing skills. Influencing without direct authority.
Highly self-motivated with the ability to drive change in a global organization with minimal supervision.
Acts as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in the areas of sourcing and negotiating contracts within Fleet & Logistics.
Intra-Europe and Intra-Americas transportation management a plus.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s Degree preferred
10+ years of experience in transportation & distribution
Proven track record of delivering savings and efficiencies across a diverse range of logistics projects is required
Experience in developing and managing transportation in North America (US, Canada, Mexico)
Must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures in a clear and professional manner and effectively present information to managers, clients, customers, and the general public using MS Office communication tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience and competence in using analytics tools such as Excel, Power BI or similar software, etc.
3rd Party Logistics provider experience
The ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists is a core part of this role.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to manipulate and summarize large quantities of data. Knowledge and experience with MS Excel or similar spreadsheet / database software is a necessity. Proficiency with MS Office applications is expected. Knowledge / experience with ERP, MRP, and project management software would be a plus.
Strong business acumen with excellent understanding of markets and how they operate and will impact the business is required
Experience with supply chain optimization and continuous improvements initiatives is strongly preferred
Experience in leading technical services organization
International travel required up to 25%
