Blauer Looking for Assistant Apparel Designer at Boston, MA Full Time

We are looking to hire a well-organized, creative and enthusiastic Assistant Apparel Designer to join our team. This individual will also be responsible for assisting and supporting the Technical Design team. The Assistant Apparel Designer is responsible for participating in all phases of the design and development process of men’s and women’s safety apparel from initial concept to production.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work closely with the Director of Technical Design and Sr. Vice President Sales/Marketing & Product Development on new projects as well as assist the Technical Design team on heritage style reviews
• Translate designs into sketches and draft patterns to create partial mock-ups or full garments
• Create tech packs for each style including detailed construction information and garment measurements as well as labelling, packaging and hang-tag information
• Submit tech packs to factories and follow-up on any discussion points as needed
• Track sample delivery
• Measure and review each sample including reviewing all construction and workmanship as well as measurements
• Fit garments on dress forms or live models to review design and fit intent with upper management
• Communicate all sample review comments directly to the factory and follow-up on any related questions
• Constantly review safety apparel offerings from competitors for styling and fit
• Assist in various office organization projects and other relevant duties as needed

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certificate or Degree in Fashion Design or 2 years of relevant experience
• Basic patternmaking skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of PolyNest or similar pattern drafting software, WebPDM and either IGrafx or Adobe Illustrator
• Understanding of pattern grading, garment construction and manufacturing methods
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented with strong organization skills
