Position Summary

Amylyx is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and inclusive Finance professional to build and lead the finance function as we expand operations into Japan and subsequently, in the Asia-Pacific region. As part of a matrixed organization, he/she will take the lead on Japan and Asia-Pacific finance strategy and activities in close collaboration with the CFO and Head, GM of International Markets, APAC & LATAM. A close collaboration with global colleagues responsible for Accounting/Financial Operations, Financial Planning and Analysis, HR, Operations, and Legal will be essential as we simultaneously build our systems and prepare for additional launches of AMX0035 for ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing financial stewardship and leadership for Amylyx Japan and future teams across Asia Pacific.
• Ensures accurate and timely reporting of financials and the general ledger in compliance with US and local GAAP and financial policies and procedures, including revenue recognition and SOX controls.
• Accountable for financial reporting and planning for Japan /Asia-Pacific region during a period of major growth.
• Key role in defining and creating appropriate Japan/Asia-Pacific based organization to optimize execution around launch, successful commercialization and long-term performance in Asia-Pacific; including legal, tax, and operational issues, organizing both full time and consulting resources, and coordinating efforts with US colleagues.
• Provides thoughtful leadership and influence for executive-level decision-making through deep analytical insight into core business decisions and clear communication of complex issues
• Partner with cross-functional Japan/Asia-Pacific team to establish robust forecasts for Budget, P&L, S&OP and Strategy Plan.
• Manage outsourced accounting services provided by external accounting firms and coordination with regional third-party logistics partners.
• Proactively manage performance to meet financial objectives.
• Drive productivity initiatives with business partners to ensure efficient use of resources.
• Maintain strong knowledge of all relevant compliance policies (i.e., Code of Conduct, CIA, Data Privacy, SOX, etc.) and ensure compliance in all job activities.
• Serve as an Amylyx Pharmaceuticals Japan K.K. Board member and help GM prepare for Board of Directors meetings

Requirements

• BS/BA Degree; MBA and/or CPA desirable
• Minimum 15+ years of finance experience in Asia-Pacific preferably in a start-up biotech environment
• Deep finance and regional controlling experience
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, cross-cultural environment – across several geographic areas preferred
• Advanced computing skills (Microsoft Office) and working knowledge of financial reporting packages
• Proficiency in English, written and verbal
• Must live within commutable distance to Tokyo
• Ability to travel to US HQ’s (Cambridge, MA) and within the APAC region
