Position Summary
Abiomed’s Co-Ops offers the opportunity to work with product development in the forefront medical device field. This is a hands-on engineering position where the student will work closely as part of the development team to develop, test and implement design pertaining to ECMO. ECMO provides prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life. Abiomed is working on developing a system to advance the standard of care in ECMO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize, develop, and iterate designs.
- Test new designs (functional testing, mechanical testing, and simulated use).
- Brainstorm novel ideas for device improvements using test results.
- Resolving technical problems.
- Provide documentation support and complete written reports on testing and designs.
- Actively participate in design reviews.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in as student in a Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering Program.
- Must have completed at least 2 years of undergrad completed by Summer 2024.
- Use 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- High mechanical design proficiency.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Interest in the medical device industry.
- Position is on-site and not remote.
