60 % – Equipment maintenance and handling of hazardous waste
Operates and maintains the equipment maintenance of the Histology Laboratory; assists in simple histological procedures as a diagnostic and research tool for the detection of viral, bacterial, and abnormal growth diseases under the supervision of senior professionals: processes/embeds all submitted pathologic tissue;
Performs general laboratory maintenance tasks including conducting inventory, handling and disposing of all hazardous waste material as prescribed by UHS, performing general laboratory cleaning duties, and undertaking all quality control measures; actively participates in a solvent recycling program through use of special recycling equipment.
Assists in maintaining all complex laboratory equipment according to the manufacturers’ recommendations; assists in troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions under supervision; calibrates equipment in compliance with quality control protocols; documents actions and results in an online quality control software program.
20 % – Assists in maintaining daily specimen log and workload
Cross-checks submissions against online data information; assists in maintaining and archives daily checklists of special stain procedures.
20 % – Other duties
Actively participates in research projects from within and outside of the CVM with supervision.
Assists in the preparation of various solutions and reagents necessary to perform histologic tests; follows established standard operating procedures as directed by supervisor
Assists in the ordering and handling of laboratory supplies.
Other miscellaneous laboratory duties.
