This is a full time, 40 hour per week, benefits eligible Civil Service position.
Rate of Pay: $19.72 – $27.50 per hour
OVERVIEW:
The Office of Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) addresses all non academic alleged violations of the Board of Regents Student Conduct Code and addresses Scholastic Dishonesty. The department also provides tools for individuals to peacefully and effectively resolve disputes. OSCCR’s goal is to educate students about behavior and decision-making, and to foster a safe and healthy community in which academic success can occur.
Outcomes provide students an opportunity to be heard, to repair harm and/or to prevent recurrence of concerning behavior.
The Office of Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution includes two full-time professionals and multiple student workers. This position provides professional support to students, faculty, staff and parents and requires knowledge and experience in student development. Cases are often varied and complex, resolved in consultation with the Director using creative decision-making, and/or utilization of best practices, especially restorative justice. It is imperative that this role approach all students with equal care, concern, and dignity. The nature of this position requires utmost confidentiality, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, project management, computer software literacy, and a commitment to educating students.
DUTIES:
Adjudication and Investigation (50%)
* Evaluate and investigate incident reports pursuant to the Board of Regents policy: Student Conduct Code
* Conduct investigations into charges of student misconduct and prepare witnesses and
respondents for formal hearings
* Refer reporting parties whose issues outside the jurisdiction of the student conduct code to the appropriate resources
* Resolve cases utilizing incident-appropriate and creative sanctioning. Monitor completion of
sanctions: work with other University offices to ensure students adequately complete assigned sanctions and follow up with students who fail to complete sanctions
* In conjunction with the Director, EOAA Associate, and Title IX Coordinator, adjudicate sexual misconduct cases that exclusively involve students
* Serve as an advisor to the Student Hearing Panel, UMD’s formal student conduct decision making body
* Maintain timely, detailed and accurate records for cases and other information about students. This includes information stored in a secured online database
* Oversee response to information requests for student conduct files (background checks)
Education and Development (30%)
* Supervise student Office Assistants (hiring, training, coaching, employee outcomes) and oversee administrative operations
* Assist the Director with student hearing panel recruitment, selection, and training
* Seek innovative ways to educate students on rights, responsibilities and alternative dispute resolution techniques within the UMD community
* Counsel individual students (both complainants and respondents) regarding their rights and
responsibilities
* Provide consultation regarding student behavior and academic integrity issues
* Oversee, plan, and organize awareness events for campus and Duluth community
* Develop and execute communication plan through website, publications, presentations, and public displays
* Advise at least one student organization dedicated to creating a culture of conflict resolution at UMD
* Participate in the development and execution of annual strategic plan objectives
Assessment and Policy (10%)
* Assist in creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and protocols.
* Assist with assessment (focus group, surveys, and observations) which monitor student learning outcomes, collect and analyze data and prepare reports
* Maintain official student conduct records in accordance with institutional policy and relevant
laws, utilizing Maxient Network
* Stay abreast of legal and other matters in higher education relevant to student conduct and academic integrity
Community Involvement and other duties as assigned (10%)
* Serve on University and Student Life committees as appointed
* Attend committees and meetings in place of Director as needed
* Serve as a liaison between University and students, parents, UMDPD, and faculty
* Maintain an active role in professional associations related to student conduct & conflict resolution such as ASCA, ACPA, NASPA
* Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* BA/BS degree and two or more years of related experience or a combination of education and related work experience to equal six years
* Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement University policies and procedures
* Demonstrated commitment to and appreciation for issues of diversity, inclusion, and community
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Experience in investigating, adjudicating and resolving student conduct cases in a political arena
* Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student conduct, student records,
student’s rights and the adjudication of sexual misconduct
* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with units and constituencies across campus
* Master’s degree
