Position description
The University of California, Davis Department of Radiology is recruiting for a full-time medical physicist with expertise in computed tomography at the Assistant Professor rank in the In-Residence series. Faculty in this series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research, and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.
EXPECTATIONS
The position requires teaching, research, and clinical involvement with all aspects of computed tomography.
The candidate will be expected to lecture on all topics related to CT (system components, reconstruction, radiation dosimetry, and clinical protocols) to radiology residents, other physician groups, medical physics residents, and students.
The candidate will be expected to be active in research associated with computed tomography technology, radiation dosimetry, clinical applications of computed tomography, etc. UC Davis features a unique high resolution CT scanner which can be leveraged for both clinical and technical research projects. There also is a custom fabricated cone beam CT system that can be the basis of research projects, should the candidate be interested.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be actively involved in monitoring CT radiation dose metrics as provided by third-party software (“Radimetrics”) and be able to respond to exception (high dose) cases which have been flagged by this software. UC Davis has a fleet of CT scanners, both at the main hospital and in remote facilities, and the candidate will be expected to provide clinical physics testing on these systems as a medical physicist, including annual surveys, acceptance testing, and ACR accreditation procedures. Many of our nuclear medicine systems have associated CT systems, and the candidate will be expected to be involved in the CT aspects of their clinical operation, acceptance testing and annual assessment.

Qualifications
Candidates must:
* Have strong expertise in all aspects of computed tomography, including whole body CT systems, cone beam CT systems, hardware operation and configuration, reconstruction protocols, and pre-and post-processing procedures.
* Knowledge of all aspects of reconstruction protocols is necessary, including analytical reconstruction, iterative reconstruction including statistical and model-based methods, and artificial intelligence/machine learning aspects of CT image reconstruction including corrective measures and de-noising.
* Demonstrate a focus on computed tomography, including hardware development, reconstruction optimization, radiation dosimetry, and clinical applications, through evidence of peer-reviewed publications.
* Knowledge and aptitude for optimizing CT protocols for specific clinical applications, in collaboration with radiologists and CT technologists.
* Have hands-on experience in performing quality assurance and acceptance testing on commercial CT scanners, including characterization of required radiation dose metrics (CTDIvol, etc.), ACR accreditation procedures, and determination of system accuracy, etc.
* Familiarity with radiation dose monitoring equipment, including the 100 mm CT pencil chamber, thimble-chamber based dosimetry, pancake chamber operation for scattered radiation measurements, etc.
* A track record of teaching CT physics
