Responsibilities
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Division of Heart Rhythm Services
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine work within care teams comprised of both physicians and NP/PAs working collaboratively. In a care team model, NP/PAs are partnered with physician, nursing, and administrative colleagues to support patient care needs of the team. In addition to supporting team based care, the NP/PA also maintains their own clinic with individual patients. Together, the teams provide care for a wide range of cardiac patients across subspecialities including general cardiology, valve clinic, heart rhythm clinic, advanced heart failure/cardiac transplant clinic, adult congenital heart disease clinic, vascular clinic, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy clinic. Additionally, the NP/PA will collaborate with other subspecialities and primary care both within and outside of Mayo Clinic.
The NP/PA role in Heart Rhythm Clinic requires only outpatient clinic work and no call, hospital rounding, or weekend coverage. Typically sees between 8-10 patient per day. Visit types are inclusive post-hospital follow ups, symptom assessment, longitudinal care, diagnostic review and development of treatment plan. The NP/PA will be expected to see and treat a variety of cardiac diagnoses with an emphasis on electrophysiology. This includes, but is not limited to, atrial and ventricular arrythmias, antiarrhythmic therapies, pacemaker/ICD function and indications.
Professional development opportunities include participation in weekly and monthly educational conferences, ongoing process improvement, clinical research and educational activities with rotation of NP/PA students and the department’s Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure NP/PA fellowship programs.
Qualifications
Prefer 1-2 years of cardiology specific experience and ideally with electrophysiology experience.
Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross and DEA registration required
