EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time, 9-month, tenure track
PRIMARY DUTY: The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach all lower and upper division
courses in Art Education and to lead all aspects of the K – 12 art education concentration.
The Art
Program at Northwest provides a rigorous, student-centered education that encourages risk-taking, exploration, and collaboration. We are a
vibrant faculty with a vision for revitalizing our program to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We seek a dynamic
colleague in art education to lead the concentration in Art Education and to contribute to the growth of the Art Program. The successful
candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching art education within a robust and collaborative art program at a comprehensive
state university. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations, work
collegially, and develop and maintain effective professional relationships within a multi-disciplinary department and the School of
Education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Teach 23-26 credit
hours per academic year including all courses in Art Education.
2. Coordinate all aspects of the Art
Education program, including serving as art faculty team representative to the Teacher Education unit, observing student fieldwork (i.e.,
student teaching), monitoring the progress of art education majors throughout their programs, and keeping the art education curriculum
current with standards for continued accreditation and state certification.
3. Teach courses in Fiber Arts,
operate relevant technologies, and manage class-related materials inventory related to the fiber arts studio area.
4. Teach other courses according to department needs including a collaborative art education course with the
School of Education.
5. Maintain a sustained record of scholarship/creative activity.
6. Engage in student support by advising and mentoring Art Education students.
7.
Engage in department and university service.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education: Doctorate in Art Education required.
2. Certification/License/Experience: Prior or
current certification and/or teaching experience in K-12 education.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Highly collaborative academic environment in a Fine and Performing Arts Department at a regional, comprehensive university. Faculty
use Canvas, an online learning management system, and are provided with a laptop computer.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise student employees; assist with or supervise internships (including education
practica/student teaching).
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Laptop computer, technology
enhanced classrooms, and online course and information management systems. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential classroom
functions and the ability to lift and carry 20 pounds.
