The Young Harris College Department of Education seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Education (Tenure track) position. The
candidate should be flexible and collegial with a strong theoretical background in teacher preparation, preferably with experience in a
teacher preparation program at the college level. Additionally, the candidate should have experience/expertise in elementary grades
education with the capacity to teach content classes and supervise students in field studies/clinical placements. The position is to begin
January 2024. Additional summer appointment may be possible contingent upon funding and student demand. Progress in rank will necessitate
demonstration of productivity in teaching, service, and publication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach
undergraduate level courses in one or more of the following areas: a) elementary reading; b) introductory courses in Foundations of
Education; c) elementary education methods in one or more of the following areas: literacy, mathematics, social studies or science
education; d) social emotional learning and classroom leadership; e) assessment and evaluation.
Successfully deliver instruction in a
live format and in online/digital format if required.
Conduct student advising for assigned students.
Serve on program and
college committees as assigned.
Provide service to the Education profession, YHC Teacher Preparation Program, Young Harris College,
and work with school and community partners to advance initiatives that support the Young Harris College teacher preparation program.
Support teacher candidate field studies through the supervision of student placement, building ongoing relationships with partner schools
and supporting mentor teachers that supervise YHC candidate teachers in field placement assignments.
Conduct scholarship that
supports the goals of the Teacher Preparation Program.
Maintain current knowledge of state licensure/certification procedures for
higher education teacher preparation programs by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Contribute to assessment processes
that support the continuous progress and development at the course, program, and institutional levels.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Education (or related field) and hold a current state issued
teacher licensure/credential. Individuals who are ABD and will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered, with the
understanding that the terminal degree must be completed within one year and the rank will be instructor.

Requirements
The Department
of Education at Young Harris College seeks a tenure-track faculty member as a collaborative addition for the Teacher Preparation Program.
Candidates should be deeply committed to undergraduate/graduate education, have a mission to prepare exceptional educators, and have proof
of scholarly undertakings, and there is an expectation of evidence of professional and community involvement/service. The Department is
interested in candidates who can positively impact the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research,
and service.
The candidate must be able to teach methods courses for graduate and undergraduates in elementary reading, middle grades
social studies, and/or secondary math, life science, or history as well as introductory courses in Foundations of Education, field studies
seminars, supervise clinical experience candidates, and other related educational courses. Other duties will include mentoring undergraduate
students, providing service to the department, division, and college, participating in research and other scholarly activities.
