Job Description Under the general direction and supervision of the Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director is responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of the Health & Wellness Department. Paramount will be providing best in class and quality programming and member engagement. The Director of Health and Wellness will also provide the leadership necessary to advance the mission of the organization and is responsible for the development, instruction, retention, maintenance, and staffing of all health and wellness functions at the YMCA including, but not limited to: Group Exercise Classes, Strength and Cardiovascular, Personal Training; Floor Trainers, Fitness Assessments, and Youth Fitness Programs. Qualifications • The preferred candidate will have (5) five years’ experience in the fitness industry with at least (2) two years in a supervisory capacity. • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field is preferred. • YMCA experience strongly preferred. • Must be a people-person with the ability to build relationships with and among members. • Enthusiastic team player and healthy role model with a solid understanding of the YMCA Mission, Membership & Wellness programs. • Knowledge and successful experience and skills in staff supervision, fitness programming, marketing and promotions. • Self-motivated, strong leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills, and good administrative skills. • Working knowledge of Daxko Operations, Engage and Accounting and ActivTrax preferred. Essential Functions • Provide premiere membership experience, value, service, and retention programs by planning, budgeting, promoting and implementing all Health & Wellness initiatives including but not limited to: personal training, group exercise and fee -based fitness programs for all ages. • Jointly responsible for enhancing member relations and retention by working closely with the Membership Director and the team of Directors at the YMCA. • Develop, implement and oversee all Health and Wellness Programs that reflect the community’s needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and character development. • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate fitness floor staff, group exercise instructors, and volunteers as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow. • Develop and implement annual budgets for assigned program and membership areas, and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines. • Oversee purchases and maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines and maintain a clean and safe program area. • Participate in staff meetings, support branch and Y fundraising initiatives and attend professional training as appropriate. • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals. • Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department. • Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology. Required Certifications • Personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e. ACE, ACSM, NASM). • Acquire CPR, First Aid, AED, and 02 within 60 days of hire. |
