The YMCA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Senior Leader for fitness programming as the Association Executive Director of Healthy Living. Job Description The YMCA is seeking an Association wide leader to be part of the reinvention and rebuilding of the organization’s fitness programming across the region in 20+ locations. Since the shutdown of in-person fitness programming in March of 2020, the YMCA has been reinventing its program delivery and member engagement strategies. As the YMCA welcomes members back to our facilities, we are poised to advance innovative approaches to building community and addressing health challenges through our fitness programming. During the shutdown period and since our reopening, the Y has developed outdoor venues, online content and creative programming initiatives. We are ready, with the help of a new leader, to expand our impact and set the standard for YMCA Health and Wellness programming. The YMCA of Greater Houston operates 20 full facility Y’s complete with fitness centers, group exercise spaces, gymnasiums and in some cases innovative outdoor programming venues. In addition, the YMCA owns and operates a beautiful resident camp with opportunities galore for wellness retreats and fitness workshops. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor’s degree in health, nutrition, exercise science or related field or equivalent. 2. Eight or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency. 3. Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising. 4. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations. 5. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations. 6. YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred. 7. Certifications in Group Exercise and/or Personal Training preferred. 8. CPR and First Aid certifications required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May directly supervise employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. TRAVEL Travel is primarily locally to assigned centers within the Greater Houston area during the business day. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. HOURS Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the center needs. Essential Functions Position Summary: Develops, organizes, implements and supports high quality strategies and initiatives in the areas of Group Exercise, Community Health and Personal Training to increase member retention and engagement. Collaborate with Center Operations Leaders to achieve organizational goals related to Healthy Living. Essential Functions: 1. Leads with inclusion and ensures all members and participants feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. Builds a staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of the community. 2. Works in collaboration with Association Brand Experience to develop an approach to member initiation. Works in collaboration with center Healthy Living staff to develop strategies to engage and retain members. 3. Collaborates with Center Leaders to help them hire and train Healthy Living Directors. Works alongside Center Leaders to support development and retention of staff through goal setting, work assignments and ongoing feedback. 4. Supports all level of staff on all issues related to healthy living initiatives through e-mail, phone and in-person conversations and meeting. 5. Provides a major leadership role in the Association Member Experience work team. 6. Contributes to regular Membership & Healthy Living conference calls to relay relevant information, and to address issues and questions related to healthy living initiatives. 7. Establish and maintain Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures in Healthy Living protocol and processes for the association. 8. Assist centers in building a relevant and profitable menu of healthy living programs including fee-based classes and personal training to help promote relationship-based membership and to help deepen member engagement. 9. Track and report data related to healthy living programs and initiatives. 10. Track group exercise data to ensure efficiency and relevance at all centers. 11. Identify training and staff development needs and solutions. |
