Willmar Poultry Farms Looking for Senior Accountant at Willmar, Minnesota Full Time

Willmar Poultry Farms has a new, full-time opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join their team.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing, managing and directing the financial systems and operations of Willmar Poultry Farms, Wilpro and Farm Service Elevator. As a member of the leadership teams, the Senior Accountant will work in close partnership with other leaders of these areas to help drive strategic decisions that will result in growth and sustained profitability for the areas and their shareholders, while promoting a strong culture of employee engagement. This position manages all financial accounting, managerial accounting, and budgeting functions and provides support for the tax and insurance functions. 

This position will be housed at the Willmar Poultry Farms and Farm Service Elevator headquarters, based in Willmar, MN. Willmar Poultry Farms is a commercial grow out operation, providing turkeys to families in the U.S. and abroad. 

Our Purpose is to produce wholesome turkeys for our customers in order to provide opportunities for our team members and support our affiliated companies. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategy & Planning

• Provides financial analyses, guidance and advice to management and owners consistent with corporate policy and standard accounting practices.
• Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
• Partners with leadership to support decision-making by providing rapid and accurate financial investigations to assist management in the development of solutions to operating problems.
• Develops and reports on financial performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.
• Troubleshoots key account areas requiring extensive review, examination of data and corrective action or continuous improvement.
• Standardizes accounting procedures to ensure consistent and appropriate integration of data.
• Guides financial decisions and protects company assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies/procedures and internal controls.
• Monitors and confirms the company’s financial condition by conducting internal audits and assisting with external audits.
• Provides cash projections to ensure adequate funding for strategic plan
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, anticipates future legislation; enforces adherence to requirements, assists in filing required financial reports and advises management on any needed actions.

Team Management

• Builds and engages a high performing financial staff by recruiting, coaching, counseling, and monitoring/appraising job results.
• Completes operational requirements by effective planning, scheduling, assigning staff, process development and overseeing the achievement of results within month-end/year-end, costing, invoicing, and receivables.

Finance and Accounting:

• Applies GAAP principles of accounting to prepare, examine, analyze, and interpret financial information.
• Participates in the development of company CapEx plans through the development of ROI analysis, open job status reporting ensuring that CIP’s are completed and processed according to established procedures and ensures that project managers submit required information for accurate tracking.
• Oversees all financial operations including financial planning, budgeting, financial and costing transactions.
• Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
• Develops, implements, and maintains accounting, costing, and administrative policies and procedures related to financial accounting and reporting.
• Provides the status of the organizations’ financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting on key financial metrics.
• Prepares accurate and timely financial reports and records, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.

The ideal candidate will have the following educational and experience background:

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an accounting / finance position.
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business management, finance, accounting, or related field.
• Strong knowledge in financial forecasting, accounting principles and financial data analysis.
• Clear understanding of GAAP and familiarity with current finance and accounting related laws and regulations.
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and written; skilled in the art of negotiation.
• Ability to make important decisions under pressure, with integrity and solid moral judgment.
• Ability to drive cross-functional collaboration between Finance and the Operational Teams, as well as partner with the Senior Leadership Team.
• Previous experience in grain, feed mill, and flock cost accounting preferred.
