Position Summary:
Westmark School is currently seeking a Lower School Classroom Teacher (Upper Elementary.) Our ideal candidate will possess a knowledge base and passion for teaching students—preferably with language-based learning differences—and be able to organize and implement an instructional program that will capitalize on student strengths and in accordance with the Westmark School mission.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Teaches classes to students with language-based learning differences.
• Plans and implements curriculum; submits weekly lesson plans to the Director of Lower School.
• Integrates technology into the curriculum following best practices.
• Maintains class page on the School’s learning management system (LMS) and regularly updates and posts to the LMS class grade book.
• Uses behavior management systems that are effective with students with language-based learning differences.
• Provides a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning.
• Provides effective and consistent communication with parents and the Director of Lower School regarding student behaviors, academic concerns, and progress.
• Individualizes lessons to fit students’ needs.
• Models professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, peers, and the community.
• Additional duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree and 3+ years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
• Credential and/or extensive graduate work in the field of special education or learning differences preferred.
• Strong desire to teach students with language-based learning differences
• Knowledge of multisensory teaching methodologies.
• Experience with technology, specifically iPads, PCs, and SMART Technologies.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Desire to continue to develop professionally by learning new programs and methodologies.
