Western Colorado University invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position in the Department of Education in the area of special education.
In an effort to increase Western’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI), this position is part of a DEI cluster search that involves the following departments: Accounting, Education, Outdoor Industry MBA, and Environment and Sustainability.
The Education Department at Western has approximately 150 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. Students may earn undergraduate and graduate degrees and teaching licenses in elementary education, middle school and secondary education, special education, school administration, and educator effectiveness. Duties
Teaching responsibilities could include courses on inclusivity, mild disabilities, social-emotional disabilities, instruction and assessment in special education, teaching reading in special education, applied behavior analysis, qualitative research methods, and teacher action research. Other courses could be included in the teaching load based on need and qualifications. The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 teaching load, with possible releases for leadership responsibilities. A strong commitment to effective teaching, advising, service, and professional development is expected.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. is required; ABD applicants will also be considered. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, excellence in teaching, and willingness to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population. Candidates must also be able to use technology in instructional delivery, including ability to teach online and hybrid courses. Collegiality and professional flexibility are characteristic of the department and would be sought in the successful candidate.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $50,000-$55,000 annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
