Position Description
West Virginia State University’s Department of Education is
seeking a candidate for a fulltime, benefits eligible, faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities for the Assistant Professor of Education
The faculty position is a nine-month appointment
and responsibilities include teaching general education courses and methods courses in content areas on campus and online; developing new
courses; supervision of field experiences in K-12 public school settings; collaborating with faculty on assignments and assessments,
including the CAEP accreditation process; and participating in WVSU campus events.
The successful candidate must be willing and
able to teach courses within the Education program including Content Literacy, Human Growth and Development, and Educational Psychology.
Candidates should have a commitment to excellent teaching, professional development, and service, including participation in student
advising, recruitment and retention activities. Candidates also serve the department through community engagement and service. All positions
are subject to availability of funds.
Requirements for the Assistant Professor of Education

Earned doctorate in an educational specialty (Elementary Education or Secondary Education, reading, or curriculum) aligned with the position
and administrative leadership will be given preference.
· Candidates must have earned as a minimum requirement, a
Master’s Degree in a related field and must be fully certified at the secondary level by the West Virginia Department of Education or
any other state Department of Education.
· A minimum of three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in a
public school setting required.
· College or University teaching experience is preferred.
· Knowledge of
assessment systems and databases in public schools is desirable.
Salary Statement
Salary
will be commensurate with experience.
