POSITION TITLE: District Manager

PURPOSE
The District Manager is energetic, diligent, organized and knows how to drive teams toward results. The ideal candidate has a take-charge personality and a reputation for getting things done. As a District Manager, you will manage and direct operations at several VASA locations within your assigned region. Your job will involve travel between locations and building a team of results-driven, culture-based club leaders. You will wake up every day with a clean slate and the opportunity to win again.
DELIVERABLES
Responsible for driving pace, financial performance, and consistency in each of the clubs being managed.
Drive operational goals, objectives, and priorities for all GMs and responsible for attainment of financial results for your district (e.g., member growth, revenue, club operating profit, fitness revenue, labor, employee turnover and member retention).
Manage and provide guidance on the district’s operating budget and approve discretionary expenditures (within set guidelines) for all clubs within the district.
Responsible for the hiring and development of the district team with particular emphasis on club leadership positions. Recommend staffing changes, additions, and facility remodels to the Regional Director and district staff.
Responsible for the performance management of team members across the district as required to maintain consistent company standards and financial results.
Responsible for communicating and upholding consistent company standards and leading by example for delivering the House of VASA approach, purpose, and foundation; manage clean, friendly, and well-maintained clubs.
Ensure managers create and maintain an UPLIFT culture at all clubs within the district.
MANAGEMENT
Provide consistent accountability for direct reports through training, coaching, conducting planning sessions, and performance reviews. Recognize good performance and discipline when necessary.
Hold GMs accountable for driving and delivering results.
Control club and district labor on a weekly basis to meet budget expectations.
Partner with GMs, HR, and recruiters to find and hire new management for clubs.
Recruit, interview, and hire GMs.
Provide direction on club leadership hires.
Lead and facilitate succession planning and talent review processes with club managers.
Develop direct reports by communicating priorities and equipping the team to achieve results through significant face time and coaching.
Provide direction to GMs to deliver on agreed upon performance goals and implementation of corporate and regional initiatives.
Monitor club facilities to ensure execution of our purpose and adherence to company programs and initiatives and offer feedback and direction to GMs.
Communicate and execute pricing promotions with GMs.
Coordinate new or relocation club activities including staffing, training, and team member promotions.
Resolve the most difficult escalated member concerns that are outside of the authority of the GM to solve.
Provide resources and direction to ensure that company policies, including loss prevention procedures, employment, and HR policies are enforced.
Monitor and control retail inventory within each club to drive REVIVE profitability.
LEADERSHIP AND COACHING
Communicate, lead by example, and motivate the district to understand and develop passion toward the brand, values (House of VASA), and strategy.
Be consistently visible within the district clubs and set the example for providing member satisfaction and team member engagement.
Create an inspiring environment for GMs to bring the House of VASA to life.
Ensure VASA values are embedded in the management and personnel of each club.
Work collaboratively and build relationships with regional and corporate departments (HR, Safety, Loss Prevention, Payroll, Accounting, Operations, IT, etc.) to support company directives and initiatives.
PLANNING AND ORGANIZING
Participate and provide field input into the development of the district P&L, operating plan, and district/regional meetings.
Provide direction to the GMs to proactively develop thorough business plans. Ensure the plans are executed with reoccurring performance checkpoints (see management section).
Establish priorities and goals for member acquisition and retention, fitness, and labor for GMs.
Identify, plan, and execute club improvements within the district.
Facilitate district meetings to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
Review allocated club budgets with GMs to obtain feedback and recommended changes and suggestions.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
3-4 years of progressive management experience supervising 3-10 employees
4-6 years of broad retail/hospitality/service industry experience
Comparable multi-unit management experience preferred
Prior experience in one or more fitness club departments
Operations management and sales experience
Financial planning and knowledge of P&L statements
Ability to work at a fast pace while prioritizing and multi-tasking effectively
Proficiency in sales, marketing, and operations plans
Knowledge of fitness industry preferred
Passion for fitness
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in club offices; move about club floors and rooms; review, revise, and create club paperwork; communicate with employees, members, and the public.
Travel: Must be able to travel by car and airplane up to 80% of the time.
Ability to communicate via phone with internal and external members.
Ability to access and operate company computer systems including preparing documents, entering data into computer system, and reading reports from a computer database or email system.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in a normal business office environment.
While performing the club-visit duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud.
Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence. Ability to work a varied schedule to support the needs of the business, including frequent extended workdays, and weekends and holidays may be required.
