USRowing is preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, France, where our athletes will compete on the world’s stage and we will require a detailed marketing and engagement strategy to fully utilize this opportunity. The goal of this plan is to go beyond keeping our stakeholders informed about our team and athletes; we are seeking a seasoned marketing and communications expert for a limited engagement to drive sport-wide affinity, celebrate rowing’s growing awareness with the general population, and enhance our longterm fundraising initiatives for both our high-performance and community initiatives. This person’s main objective will be to create a comprehensive strategy and plan to engage, inspire, and inform our community about the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, working both directly with our Marketing & Communications team and across the organization.
Audience: USRowing members, supporters, national team athletes, coaches, families, corporate sponsors, newcomers to rowing, and partners. The Candidate Will Both Develop and Launch a Plan For: • Content creation: o Rowing stories, videos, meet the team, and Paris-themed content o Design and print materials: posters, infographics, journal o Media Assets: digital kit with visuals and videos o The Road to Paris: selection, qualification, schedules, how to view • Social media strategy and management • Olympic Journal: Event schedules, athlete profiles, ads, etc. • Corporate partnerships: customized activations • “Viewing Parties”, social engagement during the Games • Campaigns to Honor the Athletes: Athlete Homecoming, Thank You Campaign • A media book showcasing Olympians and Paralympians, featuring athlete profiles, personal stories, and training insights • A comprehensive communications timeline Skills and Expertise Required: • Planning: The candidate should have a proven track record in developing comprehensive marketing and communications strategies for major sporting events or organizations. • Efficiency: Candidate has successfully created a plan with maximum impact even with limited financial and personnel resources. • Content Creation: Strong vision for content creation, including the ability to tell compelling stories through various media such as articles, videos, and social media posts. • Social Media Management: Experience in managing social media platforms and developing social media strategies.
• Public Relations: Knowledge of public relations strategies and media relations. • Event Coordination: Experience in coordinating events, including “Viewing Parties” and athlete homecoming events. • Corporate Partnerships: Understanding of corporate partnership activation and the ability to customize activation plans to meet the needs of sponsors and partners. • Print Publication: Familiarity with print publication processes, including creating and designing publications such as the Olympic and Paralympic Journal. They should know how to work with printers and publishers. • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple departments and team members within USRowing. The candidate should be a team player who can work effectively in a collaborative environment. • Budget Management: Proficiency in budget management to ensure that the communications plan stays within budget constraints. • Project Management: Excellent project management skills to keep the communications plan on track and meet deadlines. • Sports Marketing Experience: While not mandatory, experience in sports marketing or working with National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and sports organizations would be an advantage. • Passion for Rowing: An understanding of and passion for the sport of rowing, its culture, and its community would be highly beneficial in creating authentic and engaging content.
Timeline: We are eager to launch this role and this plan as soon as possible. We expect there will be some early execution on discrete components of the plan while longer-term ideas are being fleshed out.
Compensation: This is a short-term independent contractor role with USRowing.
