The Teacher Education Department at the University of Southern Indiana, a public
university in Evansville, Indiana, seeks applications for a 10-month position as department chair at the Associate Professor or Professor
level in education. Appointment will begin August 2023.
Position Description:
We seek an innovative, entrepreneurial, resourceful,
and dynamic person to lead and mentor a department that emphasizes a university-wide commitment to preparation of teachers. The new chair
will provide the vision and direction to guide the Department to higher levels of excellence. The Chair is responsible for overall
leadership and administration of the department including oversight of academic programs, faculty review, course scheduling, budget, support
of faculty productivity and professional development, and facilitation of innovation. This is a 10-month, administrative position with
teaching responsibilities and expectations for scholarship. The Chair is assisted by two graduate program directors and serves on the Dean’s
Council, the Quality Assurance Team for Educator Preparation, and the University Teacher Education Council.
Required
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in education or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will be able to
articulate a clear and compelling vision of the department’s future and quickly adapt to the ever-changing higher education landscape. The
candidate must also exhibit a record of teaching, service, and scholarship that would result in the award of tenure at the University of
Southern Indiana; minimum of one year of P-12 teaching experience; expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships; and
university teaching and leadership experience. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
Department:
The department offers a
range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including an Ed.D. program with three tracks, a Master of Science program with three
tracks, and three undergraduate majors in early childhood education, special education, and elementary education that qualify students for
licensure in the state of Indiana. The university has accreditation for both initial and advanced programs through the Council for the
Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Additional information on the degree programs in the Teacher Education Department may be found
