The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) seeks a Professional Intern for our Planning Division to join our vibrant, committed team of professionals who support the built environment at UNM. The Professional Intern is responsible for supporting the University Planner, Senior Planner, Planner, PDC staff, and other Campus Environments and Facilities planning efforts.
UNM’s PDC provides professional support services to internal clients using best practices in capital project planning, long-range planning, asset management, development, and construction.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed in the Position Classification Description, the Professional Intern will:
1. Coordinate and schedule meetings, events, and engagement efforts related to planning and facility projects, PDC staff, and community engagement.
2. Assist planning team with environmental design studies and projects.
3. Maintain consistent project files.
4. Support Campus Environments and Facility activities on work efforts and various committees.
5. Other related duties as assigned.
Undertakes a professional internship designed to provide on-the-job training and experience to recent college graduates. Engages in various work assignments, projects, and activities of varying complexity, structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform at a professional level, typically identified with a targeted exempt position. Receives training and mentorship in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree obtained no earlier than 24 months prior to the date of hire; no previous work experience required.
This position will be critical in supporting PDC’s efforts to improve and maintain the built environment. In addition to the minimum job requirements listed in the Position Classification Description of the Professional Intern, the ideal candidate will have the following:
* Degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a related field
* Experience in the field of campus, urban, or regional planning
* Awareness of or interest in the relationship of planning with the physical environment, real estate, economics, development, architecture, and governmental processes
* Strong analytical abilities
* Strong communications skills
* Strong writing skills
* Strong graphic and map production skills
* Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, desktop publishing, graphic applications, and spreadsheets used in planning projects
* Ability to learn UNM’s software and asset management systems
