UNM Taos anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in Spring 2024 in the Fine Arts, Film and Digital Media Department to teach online and face-to-face classes in Photography, Photoshop, Art Practices, Intro to Electronic Arts, and other courses in the department and dual-credit program. Online courses can be synchronous or asynchronous. Face-to-face courses meet either once a week for 5.5 hours (includes 30 min. break) or twice a week for 2.5 hours.
Openings include the following subjects:
ARTS 1220. Art Practices I. (3)
This course introduces the exploration of processes, ideas, and diverse media of visual arts. It addresses the thematic concepts that are central to the nature of art making today, with emphasis given to issues of LIGHT, FRAME, and MARK while developing an understanding of the elements and principles of design. Meets New Mexico General Education Curriculum Area 7: Arts and Design.
ARTS 1410. Introduction to Photography. (3)
This course introduces the making of photographic images from a broad viewpoint to consider both as an art practice and as a cultural practice. The course covers technical information on camera use and functionality, composition and visual design, digital workflow and editing, professional functions of manipulating and enhancing images, and printing correctly and effectively. The historical aspects of photography are also covered.
ARTS 1510. Introduction to Electronic Arts. (3)
This course will be an introduction to the computer as a medium and fine art tool. The course will explore the history, theory, and contemporary art issues associated with electronic art practice, as well as introduce students to the basic tools and associated technologies. This studio course will introduce simple electronics, software and ideas for working with sound, video, and the Internet to create artwork.
FDMA 1515. Intro to Digital Imaging Editing-Photoshop. (3)
In this course, students will learn how to use the tools in Adobe Photoshop to create new images and edit existing images. Tools used will include selections, layers, and adjustments, among other pixel editing tools. Basic composition and output will be emphasized in all projects.
Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to Sarah Stolar, Chair of Fine Arts & Digital Media.
Minimum Qualifications to teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:
1. Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield; or
2. Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited
program in the discipline or subfield.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
2. Successful online teaching experience; knowledge of Canvas (training
required)
3. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student
success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
4. Expertise in photography, digital arts, and the Adobe Suite.
