Job Duties with percentages
The successful candidate will work on the preparation of the CERN CMS experiment’s data for public release. This will entail using the CMS software framework CMSSW, the simulation package GEANT-4 and modern machine learning techniques. In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will work in the UMN CMS research laboratory where we are developing and testing novel electronics for precision timing measurements in high energy physics experiments.
50% Preparation of CERN Compact Muon Solenoid datasets for public release. This includes the development of exemplar machine learning regression models, the data description in a publishable format and the production of metadata.
50% Development of test software and firmware for custom-built electronics and the running of tests and the analysis of data collected.
Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: B.A./B.S. in Physics. Two or more years of Python programming experience. 1 year of experience with machine learning with applications in high energy physics. Experience with firmware development in VERILOG and FPGA programming.
Preferred: Knowledge of Latex. Experience with PyTorch ML algorithm development, training and applications. Experience programming with GPUs.
