Summary
The Department of Education at the
University of Michigan – Dearborn invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of secondary (middle and/or
high school) education with teaching experience and research expertise. The anticipated start date is August 28, 2023. The position includes
responsibility for teaching (online, face to face, or hybrid), research, and service. The salary range is $64,500 – $65,790.
The
position requires an earned doctorate in teacher education or curriculum and instruction specializing in middle and/or secondary education
or a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD with a dissertation defense by August, 2023 will be considered. It is expected that the
candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: ELA, math, science, or social studies. The ability to teach across more
than one of these disciplines is strongly preferred. Successful candidates should have a well-articulated research agenda. A minimum of 3-5
years of teaching experience, or equivalent, in middle and/or secondary settings is preferred.
The successful applicant will join
faculty, students, and community partners working in the existing teacher preparation program. Candidates will teach graduate and
undergraduate courses in the Department of Education in our secondary education program, masters programs, and doctoral programs. The
successful applicant will teach courses from cross-disciplinary methods and clinical experiences for curriculum, instruction, and
assessment; adolescent development; or classroom management. Additional teaching opportunities may include courses in school community
partnership, metropolitan education, subject-specific methods courses, differentiated instruction, research methods courses, and supervision
of clinical experiences. Other responsibilities will include student advisement, service on college/university committees and professional
organizations, and collaborative work with faculty and 5-12 school colleagues in the culturally diverse communities of southeast
Michigan.
The successful applicant will be expected to have strong research skills leading to scholarly publications and to seek
external funds to support research activities. Potential lines of scholarship include (but are not limited to) examinations
