Collects blood specimens by venipunctures and capillary puncture and performs receptionist and clerical duties in both the in-patient and outpatient departments. Procurement and processing of blood and body fluids for Laboratory testing.
Responsible for blood and blood culture collection; non-blood specimen collection including urine, sputum, semen samples, throat swabs; chain of custody specimen collection. Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school graduation required with minimum of one semester of typing required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. 6 months of full time phlebotomy experience required.

1.Prefer candidates with ASCP or NCA registration, registration eligible or previous phlebotomy experience.

1. Collects specimens according to policy and procedure.
2. Capillary puncture technique will be followed according to the procedure manual.
3. Identifies all patients using 2 identifiers, e.g. Name and DOB.
4. Washes or sanitizes hands after each patient contact.
5. Administers Tuberculin Skin Tests (TST) according to policy and procedures.
6. Collects and receives specimens in Laboratory Information System (LIS) computer system according to procedure manual.
7. Generates uncollected specimens and unreceived specimen lists one time per shift. Reconciliation is made for each item that appears. The list will be retained in the labeled book.
8. Answers the telephone appropriately, in a friendly tone, and the call is transferred to the appropriate area or the question is answered in a timely manner.
9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and provide age appropriate service to the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patient per the established age-specific standard.
10. Consistently wears, gloves and face shield (as appropriate) and all other protective apparel as outlined in the safety manual.
11.Conducts all customer and patient interactions in a friendly and pleasant manner.
12. Adheres to P/P of the following safety issues: Side rails Fall risk.

1. Venipuncture and specimen procurement.
2. Teach proper post venipuncture instructions to the patient to include pressure application.
3. Verifies patient identification per P/P.
4. Customer relations.
5. Must be personable and capable of maintaining good rapport between laboratory, patients, and other departments of the hospital. Application of good guest relation procedures is required. Good handwriting skills.

5. Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
6. Collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.
