DESCRIPTION
The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 53 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between the UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI). Under the direction of the Research Facilities Manager, serve as the Department Space Facilities Coordinator at MCC, a large and complex matrix organization comprised of >300+ physicians and scientists from 18 University departments and divisions, and other external institutions. Serve as a point of contact for all space, facilities, and equipment related aspects at the for more than 178,000 square feet of research, research support, instructional and administrative facilities, including the MCC building, the MCM modulars, and the adjacent Center for Novel Therapeutics. By design, the MCC building is both a patient care facility and a research facility. As such, the incumbent most be knowledgeable of Health & Safety policies as they apply to research and patient care, working closely with colleagues from UCSD Health to ensure policy compliance in the execution of maintenance, repairs, renovations, and day to day facilities needs.
Work with new faculty recruits to ensure lab and/or other research facilities meet their needs in accordance with accepted letters of offer. Develop short- and long-term plans and solutions for space problems and issues. Ensure compliance with the safety and training requirements for all faculty, staff and students operating in MCC space. Oversee all aspects of Environmental Health and Safety in departmental research and teaching labs as well as general safety for department staff. Provide administrative support to shared resource administrators. Such as submitting recharge transaction and data management. Oversee the operation, maintenance and repair of MCC supported common use research and instructional equipment. Ensure meeting facilities and conference rooms are in good working order.
Manage the MCC glass-wash and autoclaving facilities. Coordinate with Facilities Management and Facilities Engineering to performs regular maintenance on equipment and keep facilities clean and sanitary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.
Must have a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Experience in coordinating, planning, and supporting daily operations and functions in facilities management. Experience in both administrative and facilities support.
Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software. Experience with PowerPoint presentations.
Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills.
Good organizational and analytical skills. Detail oriented to accurately proof contracts and other documents.
Familiarity with fundamental research safety and fire safety.
Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment, especially in terms of function and safety.
Knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
General knowledge of campus departments, personnel and their activities.
Working knowledge of University and campus policies and procedures regarding space management, and the ability to develop and implement internal management policies.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional, and educational backgrounds.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must be able to lift over 50 lbs. and operate a variety of power tools.
Must be able to walk to MCC facilities in widely separate areas.
Possible exposure to potentially hazardous materials, including biohazards and noises in laboratories, corridors and machine shops.
Must be able to climb a ladder up to 8 feet in height. Must be willing to take all required safety training and keep all pertinent training current.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,600 – $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.67 – $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
