DESCRIPTION
Pulmonary Function and Exercise Laboratory is a branch of Pulmonary Services in UC San Diego Health, the only academic health system in San Diego. UC San Diego Health offers comprehensive Pulmonary Services, including pulmonary function and exercise testing, pulmonary rehabilitation, interventional pulmonology, inpatient care, and outpatient clinics. Our mission is to deliver outstanding patient care while providing high-quality diagnostic services.
This position provides an opportunity to work in state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to pulmonary function and exercise testing. The Pulmonary Function and Exercise Lab provides invasive and non-invasive comprehensive pulmonary diagnostic tests such as Spirometry, Lung Volumes, Diffusion Capacity, Bronchodilator Responsiveness, Bronchospasm, Complex Cardiopulmonary Exercise, High Altitude Simulations, and Pulmonary Shunt Studies. The lab conducts and supports testing across UC San Diego Health System, including inpatient areas and outpatient clinics.
Key Responsibilities:The supervisor functions as team member of the Pulmonary Function and Exercise Laboratory and contributes to an environment that advances quality pulmonary function diagnostics throughout UC San Diego Health. The role supervises and supports staff in the provision of outstanding patient care, quality diagnostics, and responsible use of resources. Provides direct patient care as needed for smooth daily operations (less than 50% of the time). Has flexibility with schedule, to cover needs and requests when necessary. In the absence of the Clinical Manager, the supervisor is responsible for supervisory duties of all Pulmonary Function employees and clinic operations. Maintains competency in all Pulmonary Function RTII duties. Adheres to the core set of responsibilities for a respiratory supervisor, UCSD Core Values, CI Care program guidelines, Department and Medical Center’s Policies and Procedures.The position is responsible for supervising all respiratory therapists and support staff in the Pulmonary Function and Exercise Program. Supervises clinical and technical aspects of pulmonary function and exercise testing including but not limited to: staff scheduling, orientation, mentorship, instruction, direction, patient triage, equipment and software troubleshooting and maintenance. In conjunction with medical director, the supervisor assesses learning needs of staff and participates in development and implementation of in-services, educational programs and training. Collaborates with the Pulmonary Function Manager on tasks, including but not limited to: timekeeping, interviewing, coaching, counseling, feedback, and performance evaluation of staff.
The supervisor understands and is familiar with all department, hospital, state and federal policies, procedures, and regulations, and works to assure program compliance. Supports program goals and initiatives, including but not limited quality control, quality assurance, service, access, staffing, and efficiency. Promotes pulmonary function services within UC San Diego Health as well as in the community. Analyses and resolves daily clinical and operational issues. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Escalates issues to management. Evaluates and updates to policies and processes, and recommends improvements. Evaluates new equipment and software. Recommends clinical and operational equipment.

Annual Full Pay Range: $91,300 – $170,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $43.73 – $81.75
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
