SET THE COURSE
The Acting Manager of Technical Design will lead a team of technical designers and pattern makers. Responsibilities include oversight and creation of accurate measurements, grading, POM’S and construction. Will oversee the management and updating of all tech packs. Responsible for clear and timely communication with design, agents, factories and FLEX PLM.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
Oversee Technical Design team and actively participate in fittings with Design team and other cross-functional team members and advise on modifications. Provide call-outs and critiques to verify that all issues are identified.
Maintain grading and standards processes as appropriate.
Maintain awareness of current fit trends and work strategically to stay in front of the curve.
Provide direction and guidance to a team of technicians to ensure accurate execution of requested measurements, quality, construction, and overall fit of Tommy Bahama.
Oversee Divisional Tech Design Team to cross examine samples against information to ensure consistency and call outs of any discrepancies to team members.
Oversee the issue of grading guidelines to vendors after fit approval to ensure quality is kept consistent for the entirety of the production phase.
Oversee and manage the creation, updating and maintenance of division tech packs throughout the development and production process.
Audit salesman samples, against tech packs, to ensure manufacturer followed directive specs/measurements.
Oversee execution of fit comments in a timely manner to ensure fit process stays in line with development and production action calendars/timelines.
Oversee the collaboration and partnership with Design to help make appropriate recommendations and effectively communicate with factories regarding fit, spec, shape, pattern and construction methods to improve fit and quality.
Oversee and ensure fit consistency during development and manufacturing process.
Oversee and evaluate factory patterns, determine the needed corrections and communicate and resolve with vendors.
Facilitate and schedule sample reviews with Design, PD/Sourcing, Merchandising, and Production partners
Oversee daily communication with overseas and domestic vendors and factories regarding fit, construction, pattern development.
Oversee the prep of sample garments for fittings as well as maintaining and organizing all samples.
Oversee sample development including maintaining development charts and sample tracking to manage workloads to timelines.
Oversee compilation of Tech information on garments including fit, construction, stitch, and fit comments.
Oversee the approval of samples (& timing) to proceed to the production phase after a thorough evaluation of fit, measurement, pattern shaping, hanger appeal, and functionality.
Oversee the hiring of fit models as needed after a thorough evaluation of body structure and measurements.
Manage fit sessions including scheduling, model database, model measurements, and communicating any changes to vendors.
Maintain critical spec charts and provide fit information based on internal tools and customer needs.
Oversee the execution of design intent into bulk production while maintaining high quality standards.
Identify potential production, quality and or costing issues and make recommendations consistent with brand identity.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
College degree in Fashion / Apparel Design required.
Generally, 12+ years of experience in apparel technical design, with a thorough understanding of the apparel design & development process from inception through production.
Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring teams of Technical Designers.
Expert knowledge of industry pattern making, grading, garment construction, sewing, technical drawing, measuring, fitting & manufacturing. Must have a strong understanding of garment construction and fabric types
Strategic understanding of apparel development and production processes and keen understanding of schedules/calendars and production from samples through final product.
Experience running fittings, presenting to leadership, and having a voice for quality and standards.
Patternmaking knowledge to understand how to create patterns, and how to correct and perfect fit for standardization.
Strong computer knowledge, including Microsoft excel, adobe illustrator and Photoshop
Experience using FlexPLM.
Gerber 2D knowledge a plus
