Purpose
The Center for Transpiration Research (CTR) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) is accepting applications for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow to assist with ongoing DOT-sponsored research and implementation projects focused on construction management topics. The postdoctoral fellow will join the CTR research unit based in Austin. Closely collaborating with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), our research unit’s tasks include construction data analysis and modeling, construction time, schedule, and cost performance forecasting, and support for construction claims analysis. Researchers whose interests align with transportation project delivery and innovation shall be prioritized. By joining our team, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to interact with TxDOT staff on various transportation engineering and construction tasks, gaining valuable insight and practical knowledge on real-world problems. Such opportunities can lead to nurturing research ideas relevant to the current project management practices and developing those ideas into research proposals with a joint effort with TxDOT staff. The postdoctoral fellow can also pursue research collaboration with academics from the transportation engineering and construction management programs at UT Austin. Postdoctoral researchers interested in working on actual transportation construction projects with industry practitioners and collaborating with peer researchers from different disciplines are encouraged to apply for this position.
Responsibilities

Carry out research investigating the time and cost performance forecasting methods for transportation construction projects.

Carry out research analyzing the construction data to calibrate, validate, and update the findings of past sponsored research projects per the sponsor’s needs.

Conduct construction schedule delay analyses supporting the sponsor’s project claim analyses.

Conduct background studies and academic literature reviews for various sponsored research projects, including the construction scheduling and schedule analysis areas.

Collaborate with other colleagues in defining the scope of research projects.

Document the research project findings and prepare deliverables for the project sponsor.

Design and help write research grant proposals with the Principal Investigator.

Publish and present findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Perform other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
Ph.D. received in construction management, transportation engineering, or a related civil engineering discipline within the last three years.

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work collaboratively with co-workers.

Advanced quantitative data analysis skills and proficiency with statistical software tools.

Knowledge of and familiarity with construction data and metrics..

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or authorized to work in the U.S. at the time of appointment.

Prior research and/or work experience in the transportation area is preferred.
Salary Range
$64,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
