CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers multiple academic degree and certificate programs designed to meet the needs of working adults, as well as traditional-aged college students, who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and the community. The Joseph S. Murphy Institute serves as entity within SLU, housing Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD) and Public Programming, with two specific goals: (1) to partner with labor unions, government agencies, employers, and other CUNY units to expand educational opportunities for union members and adult learners seeking the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to achieve their career goals and improve their economic well-being, and (2) to serve as a hub for discussion and debate on the challenges confronting workers and working-class communities.
SLU’s Worker Education partners with unions, community-based organizations, employers, and other CUNY units to provide academic and administrative support to union workers, working adults, and nontraditional students seeking to earn a degree or certificate from a college within CUNY; enhance their skills and improve their career opportunities. The Worker Education unit seeks apart-timeProgram Specialist who will assist in a range of recruitment, outreach, advisement, and administrative tasks mainly in the Adult College Access (CUNY-Days) and College Prep programs . The Program Specialist will report to the Director of Worker Education and Workforce Development.
The successful candidate will be a front-facing program expert, who provides prospective students with general information about CUNY colleges and programs, counsels prospective students through the application processes, and advises them through their academic journeys. The Specialist assists with planning and facilitating recruitment events, promotional efforts, and tailored workshops, and serves as a liaison between prospective students and CUNY staff. They will use their technical and organizational skills to track program-specific student data and prepare reports for leadership.
NOTE:
Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsite presence. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in student recruitment and enrollment and/or academic advisement highly desirable
Experience in higher education and/or adult education and workforce development
Excellent organizational, communicationand interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead presentations and small-group discussions
Competency with multiple computer applications (e.g. Microsoft 365, Zoom, Google voice, social media, and student registration systems)
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Abilityto travel to the five boroughs in New York City when needed
COMPENSATION
Hourly rate commensurate with education and experience, starting at $46.49/hr.
