The Department of Educational Studies at
Swarthmore College invites applications for a one-year, full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin August 2024. The
successful candidate will have research interests and teaching experience in Educational Foundations and another area in educational
studies. The candidate will likely be asked to teach two sections of our Introduction to Education course (Pedagogy & Power), and additional
courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise.
The Department of Educational Studies has a profound commitment to antiracism and
social justice through and around the field of education and pedagogical praxis. The Department has 6 permanent tenure lines, one regular
part-time Associate professor, and another Visiting Assistant Professor. Yearly, the Department graduates between 18 to 22 majors in
Educational Studies or one of 20 majors where students are able to combine Educational Studies and another department; 8 to 10 students
complete course minors. Classes are typically between 10 to 20 students, and our introductory course is offered as a first year seminar or
a general course accessible to all students at the College. Students are motivated, with many of them committed to becoming engaged scholars
who contribute to improving the world around them. The Department is collegial; there are opportunities for collaboration with colleagues
and students through research, field experiences and community building within our community. Additional information about the Department

Qualifications
A terminal degree (Ph.D, Ed.D.) in educational studies or related disciplines is required. ABDs are welcome to apply. The successful
candidate will have experience in, and a passion for, teaching and mentoring undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds and identities,
and the potential for innovative and impactful scholarship.
The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to
creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse
backgrounds.
