Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Startup and Commissioning Group provides commissioning services to this senior laboratory in the DOE system, our campus spans 40 square miles and has almost 900 individual facilities. This position provides an ever changing daily routine with a mix of site wide field work and office work. Your projects will represent a broad range of scope ranging from simple HVAC and I&C upgrades to new research laboratories and infrastructure installations. With an increased effort in revitalization of existing facilities and new construction your skills will be utilized to insure that our facilities are operational and ready for use supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory’s mission to solve national security challenges through simultaneous excellence.
The Commissioning Professional plans and conducts startup activities on projects at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Services include pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup testing, and initial operation to confirm that the facility and/or systems are capable of meeting specifications and design intent. They will act as the LANL liaison for third party commissioning subcontractors, provide technical guidance, assist in the navigation of LANL policies and procedures and will manage subcontracts. The Commissioning Professional will also coordinate startup between project engineering, construction, project operations personnel, subcontractors and vendors. They will provide input to project management, engineering, and construction to ensure startup requirements are incorporated into project activities, including review of project designs and construction to ensure operability and operating personnel safety.

Position requires Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited institution and 12 years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience specializing in an engineering discipline/engineering design including knowledge of building codes, engineering standards, and construction technologies.

Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
