Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in English, Journalism, Communications or related field. Three (3) years of experience reporting, writing, editing, and/or proofreading materials for publication. Experience with news and social media writing styles, including mastery of grammar and AP style. Experience with copywriting for paid advertising, including digital strategies. *Samples of writing/editing will be requested from candidates brought in for an interview (two-three articles, posts, websites or similar).
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Additional (4+) years of experience reporting, writing, editing, and proofreading materials for publication. Experience with project management software such as basecamp or FileMaker. Experience with Social Media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn. Experience with WordPress, Omni Update or other Content Management System (CMS).
Brief Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Web Content, the Writer/Multimedia Journalist will seek out and generate ideas for news and feature articles from across the university, telling stories that showcase major school initiatives, SBU faculty scholarship, student and alumni achievements and other members of our community in collaboration with fellow members of the team. The Writer/Multimedia Journalist is a strong writer with proven ability to find, propose and create compelling stories for our university news site, SBU News (), as well as other university media (e.g. Magazine) and a variety of audiences. They work with photographers, designers, and videographers to create multi-media content designed to support the University’s brand pillars and mission.

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
