Job Summary
The Sourcing Category Leader -Transportation& Logistics is responsible for leveraging spend across the business, creating and executing strategic cost savings and drive out cost, capture carrier volume allocations, product movement visibly data accuracy. The role will focus on implementing strategic sourcing analysis, RFx, contracts, and global business objectives.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develop & lead strategy for centralized transportation, logistics 3PL, and trade compliance
Engage functional and business leaders from each Spectrum Brands division to ensure business requirements and functional metrics are met on price, delivery OTIF – on time, payment terms, insurance and liabilities, invoicing, data entry and accuracy to Spectrum Brands transportation management tools, freight payables and data release.
Identifies opportunities for cost improvement through cost benchmarking, innovation, and process improvement.
Performs and project manages sourcing events from inception to implementation. Includes:
Project charter / discovery. Create team (stakeholders), review spend data and define sourcing strategy.
Identify potential suppliers; prepare and conduct RFX’s
Perform competitive bidding process
Negotiations for best overall total cost, service, and delivery along with contract negotiations in the form of terms and conditions or master service agreements.
Adhere to all FDA regulated standards and Quality Policy.
Present supplier recommendation for approval and contract award.
Contract implementation.
Manage strategic supplier relationships (i.e. ocean, dray, transload, rail and air carriers).
Evaluate, measure, and report Supplier performance metrics and scorecards.
Perform Supplier Quarterly Business Review
Contract reviews for T&C compliance, SOW (Purpose, description, pricing, delivery, supplier, and Spectrum’s delivery).
Manage supplier on boarding, supplier transactions including, payables and partnership development
Education and Experience Profile
A bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field; MBA is desirable with 5 years relevant experience in Supply Chain Management or Procurement; or an equivalent 10 or more years relevant experience.
5 – 10 years of relevant experience in transportation and carrier management and 5 years of commodity management experience Indirect Sourcing for professional services in ocean transportation and contracts; and preferably 3 years of experience with Logistics 3PL, Transportation, and Trade Compliance.
Five years indirect sourcing experience, preferably in multi-site, global operating environment.
Experience in structuring contracts, collaborating with legal reviews, and managing internal and external business relationships
Contract negotiation and management expertise to review and negotiate for Terms and Conditions (T&C) compliance and Statement of Work (SOW) clarity.
A Certificate Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or other related professional certification, completed or in progress is desired.
Six Sigma Greenbelt certification completed or in progress is a plus.
Experience in supply chain operations and/or management is plus.
Required Skills
Teamwork – must be willing and able to work closely with other departments, peers, etc.
Considerable knowledge in Information Technology (IT) sourcing; ability to understand supply, markets, price, and commodity trends, with the ability to understand market events and develop both long-range strategy and short-term contingency plans.
Proven negotiation skills
Strong analytical skills required.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to make presentations and influence people at all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage multiple projects and activities that often have competing priorities.
Global citizenship awareness as it relates to culture and customs
Advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook.
Work Environment
Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
International and domestic travel within up to 10% average per year
