Trip Leaders serve as role models for our campers. Typically they are college-aged students or recent graduates from across the United States. You are a teacher, a confidant, a friend, a leader, a cook, a sister, an inspiration, and a professional. Diverse backgrounds that congregate around a love of the outdoors, a need to help keep green spaces green, and a passion for teaching others are what we love to see in our Trip Leaders and Interns. 

We have a passion for empowering our staff to explore careers in outdoor education and small business. Our training program gives you all the knowledge and certifications to be able to seek employment as a guide in larger organizations after working for us for a summer. 

Dates of Employment

Our staff arrives on the weekend before Memorial Day for three weeks of paid training. Our dates for leaving are flexible but programming continues through the end of August. 

Application Information

The application process consists of an application, two references, and a video interview with our Director.

• The application deadline is December 31st, 2022. 
• Interviews are over the first two weeks of January 

Minimum Requirements & Expectations

• Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs or more of gear or equipment
• Ability to pass a swimming test
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred (we can reimburse for the training for this before summer if you are willing to get it) 
• A valid driver’s license
  • A clean driving record
• Ability to pass a criminal background check in all the places you have lived in the last three years. 
• A recent physical indicating excellent physical and mental health
• Most adventures require specialized hiking and camping skills
• Passion for working with youth in the outdoors! 

Training

Training is a large part of our program and we invest in your professional development. You come away from this summer with multiple certifications, and experience to take you past an entry-level candidate, and help with your resume so you can continue to seek jobs in the outdoors. Paid at $500 a week. 

• Certifications at no cost: 
  • Wilderness Medical Associates- Wilderness First Responder
  • Maine Trip Leader Permit 
  • Leave No Trace Awareness Certificate
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid 

Leader Compensation

Salaries for first-year leaders start at $600.00 a week after training with incentives for additional certifications and experience. Returning leaders receive $50 a week additional.

We also pay: 

• $300 Travel Stipend and can pick up at Portland or Bangor Airports. There is a bus from Boston as well. 
• Lifeguard certification (up to $300) 
• Housing at a community house with shared rooms for the entirety of the summer
• Meals both on and off trips
