As a Director of Software Development/Product Management – CL, you are accountable for end-to-end planning, development, and delivery of application builds, enhancements, and ongoing maintenance for their assigned portfolio. The Director will be the leader responsible for planning, estimating, and full software development lifecycle execution while ensuring best practices and standardized processes and deliverables are adhered to. The Director is also involved in setting the vision and direction of software products.

Contribute:
Serves as a key participator in the planning and execution of IT strategy ensuring that Sentry continues to innovate and improve software platforms, associated technologies, and processes. Actively engages and quickly escalates and removes roadblocks that their teams encounter.
The role also leads associates and teams that develop product roadmaps, elaborate business requirements, develop functional designs, and accept developed software product features that meet and exceed customer needs.
As a Director, you will direct and manage agile software development and delivery team(s) (matrix) consisting of developers, technical leads, software product analysts, software quality analysts, and business/vendor partners. This role will be focused on software delivery for systems that support the Commercial Lines Business areas, customers, and agents.
The director partners with other areas of IT and their business unit(s) to oversee the short- and long-term application portfolio strategy.
The Director will be responsible for defining and resourcing the team required to support application maintenance, technology delivery and quality assurance which may include recruiting and hiring internal talent as well as leveraging sourcing partnerships to build and sustain a performing team.
Additional Responsibilities
Be responsible for all phases of the system development and implementation process including analysis, design, development, testing and ongoing support for the assigned application portfolio consisting of an environment of diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g., host based, distributed systems, client server), software, hardware, technology, and tools, etc.
Manage expectations and ensure all program and quality standards are adhered to and that there is a balance and integration of all delivery components: strategy, process, people, technology, data, and application.
Ensure effective release planning, scheduling, and quality delivery to enable seamless implementation of application enhancements into the production environment while supporting all processes for maintaining ongoing operational stability and support that meets required business service levels.
Participate in setting policy and strategy for related budgets, staffing, standards, and software and hardware direction. Work with Business Unit Controller and business leadership to estimate and manage technology costs within financial plans.
Build strong relationships with key business stakeholders and maintains accountability for the communications and interactions needed to ensure that the technology aligns with the business strategy and that the program will deliver the expected value.
Work closely with executives, users, peers, and other stakeholders to identify information requirements and build systems based on modern, standards-based computing architectures.
Administers human resource-related activities including timely performance and salary reviews and ensures all subordinates adhere to human resources policies and practices. Selects, develops, motivates, and recognizes staff. Responsible for cultivating leaders, coaching, and fostering an environment to develop talent.
What it Takes
Minimum 8 years of related work experience.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
High level of credibility, with an accomplished background in leading large transformative projects, leadership in product management and overall software delivery.
Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with business partners and other teams within the IT organization.
Proven track record leading multiple agile teams and 5+ years of prior management experience.
Experience with Guidewire software is preferred.
Strong knowledge and application of current and emerging technologies that enable insurance and financial services functions.
Strong knowledge of commercial lines insurance.
Experience in talent and vendor management.
Ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative environment with a broad understanding of Financial Services products and processes.
Formal presentation/public speaking skills are required.
Oral and written communications skills, and the ability to translate and communicate technical information to non-technical business unit management.
