Sailing Pay: $900/week + tips avg. $100/ day under sail (Live Aboard from April/May-October)
We are a small, family-owned, ecotour company taking paying guests to sail the coast of Maine on our historic schooner. We are looking for a chef who is creative and excited to work with the best ingredients from land and sea that Maine has to offer, some of which we grow ourselves in our own backyard. The galley environment is challenging, all meals are prepared from scratch– including soups, pastas breads, baked goods, etc. The galley is equipped only with a wood fired cook stove and you will have one sous chef working under you. We serve our guests three meals a day with hor d’oeuvres before dinner. Over the years our galley has gained a reputation for producing some of the best cuisine under sail. We are frequently featured in multiple travel and food publications and the reason for that is the outstanding staff that we attract.
It’s mandatory that you pass a drug test. We are alcohol-free when passengers are on board, or you could potentially be handling the boat. It’s fun if you are able to join us in singing or making music.
More important, however, is that you are a person who is a team player, who can have intelligent interesting conversations with our passengers, be polite under stressful situations, and extend warmth and welcome to our passengers.
We give high preference to folks who can work our entire season, from June to the end of October.
Our pay is competitive. As bosses we are fair and honest teachers. We have a high level of expectation and know that the crew we hire has the capability to meet these standards. When you leave our employ after having worked an entire season or more, whether this is something you plan as a career or not, you will be proud of what you learned and of the grit and strength you’ve attained.
