The Supervisor
Leading the Way (team leadership, coaching and development responsibilities for this “manager of staff”)
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Leads the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages.
Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
Manages training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to employees to achieve department, company and customer results.
Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.
Your Planning & Navigating Requirements (the plans the job is responsible for creating and executing, and how the job ensures they are implemented)
Plan assortment of programing for the local market, meeting established KPIs and goals, with oversight from the Regional Manager.
Ensures financial and expense management of programs with oversight from Regional Manager.
Leads the hiring and onboarding of new employees (both external and internal to REI).
Schedules staff and training plans for programs.
Train employees in both programming and risk management.
Mentor and coach core team members, skilled at coaching a wide variety of customers and staff.
Manages local emergency response, supporting both customers and instructors/guides.
Lead specific programs, outings, and business and land agency partnerships.
Communicate changes and updates to program assortment.
Manage and collaborate on local assortment planning.
Manage permits, contracts, and agreements.
Ensure execution of local venue guides and update local operating procedures.
Bring your passion and expertise
4+ years of experience in outdoor education programs, leadership and development, experiential education instruction and/or guiding outdoor participation
1+ years of experience managing and supervising a diverse team
Proven outdoor leadership skills and ability to function collaboratively
Working knowledge of legal, regulatory, and risk management issues related to outdoor education
Excellent presentation and instruction skills
Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification (within the first 3 months of hire)
Instructor certifications or relevant experience in activities being offered (i.e., AMGA Climbing, ACA Kayak, PSIA Ski Instructor, etc.)
Valid driver’s license with no negative incidents; able to acquire a commercial driver’s license
Intermediate level PC skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Powerpoint

As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, REI provides a range of compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location or other relevant factors.
The pay for this role is: $55640 – $83512 per year .
