Punahou School Looking for Outdoor Education Resource Assistant – Junior School, Grades K-8 at Romulus, MI Full Time

The Outdoor Education program at Punahou immerses students in experiences that fit within a mindful progression of K – 8 outdoor education experiences. Punahou School is currently seeking Outdoor Education Resource Assistants whose primary duties include, but are not limited to:

• Meet the changing needs of children and the world around them
• Integrate and enhance the School’s inquiry-based curriculum goals
• Immerse students in age-appropriate, memorable experiences that enhance a sense of place, both local and global
• Build a foundation of self-confidence, independence, awareness, exploration and inspiration by challenging the body and mind
• Connect them physically, mentally and spiritually to Hawaiian culture
• Enable them to form a meaningful relationship with the natural world
• The program aims to build a deep connection to the natural world as a key step in developing students who care about the earth, are effective stewards of our natural resources, and are equipped to take action towards global sustainability. Punahou School is actively recruiting Outdoor Education Support Staff.

Scheduling Details:

• Work Year: 9 Months
• School Year: 2023-2024
• Work Hours: Varies based on operational needs

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
• First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifeguard certification preferred. If applicant does not currently have up-to-date certifications, a willingness to receive them is required.
• Two (2) years of related experience, especially in a school setting preferred. Familiarity with the school’s outdoor education program preferred.
• Knowledge of SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Core Competencies and application strategies encouraged.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, ages and sensitivity to each individual student’s needs as well as the ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
• Proven leadership and individual, class, small and large group management skills and ability to lead activities in a variety of settings. Positive tone is essential.
