Position Summary:
The Senior Operations Manager provides direction and solutions across multiple locations with the goal of satisfying customer expectations, adhering to contractual obligations, and promoting a productive and engaging environment among work groups.
The oversight of this role will cover the greater Chicago Area.
Major Responsibilities:
People:
-Ensure that all supervisors and managers understand how their work relates to the customers’ business objectives; responsible for the hiring and selection of staff including performance management and development; foster an inclusive and engaging work environment to include team building activities, reward and recognition, and frequent communication.
Operations:
-Interact daily with customers to ensure understanding of existing and emerging expectations and operational excellence. Direct and motivate team to identify operational improvements in areas such as route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, trailer loading, etc. Collaborate with leaders from other Penske sites to share best practices, leverage resources/assets, etc.
Finance:
-Develop and execute annual financial and operating plan, manage the operations with integrity to meet or exceed the Business Plan targets, identify issues with the operating metrics and P&L and respond accordingly, ensure customer billing and associate payroll are prepared timely and accurately, monitor the payables and intercompany charges, and other activities reflected in the P&L.
Safety:
-Monitor the application and compliance of all safety policies and procedures and promote a safe workplace. Audit and address observed facility and equipment safety concerns and behaviors according to our policies and procedures.
Growth / Customer Experience:
-Execute processes that ensure timely deliveries to customers and identify profitable operational opportunities that will maximize customer efficiencies and achieve cost savings.
Fleet/Assets:
-Monitor and improve fleet/equipment utilization and fuel efficiency, contribute to equipment specification at time of start-up and renewal, and build and maintain strong, effective working relationships with Penske Truck Leasing leadership and other equipment vendors.

Qualifications:
– 5 years related logistics and supply chain experience required
– 3 years in a prior supervisory role required
– Bachelor’s Degree preferred
– Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel required
– Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills required
– Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
– Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening required.
