Job Summary:
The Department of Wood Science and Engineering invites applications for a
full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor (Teaching) position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head
as appropriate.
The Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Wood Science & Engineering is a full-time, 9-month, fixed-term
position with responsibility for design and delivery of instruction, for research and scholarship in their discipline, and for institutional
& professional service. This Assistant Professor (Teaching) has expertise in the artistry and aesthetics of wood art, wood design, wood
sculpture, and wood manufacturing processes.
The Assistant Professor (Teaching) contributes to the interdisciplinary nature of the
College of Forestry, specifically wood artistry and wood design, toward a more sustainable future. They develop and maintain a program of
distinguished research and innovative scholarship in the field of wood design and wood art. They identify emerging trends and
industry/community needs, contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives, and develop & deliver quality undergraduate and graduate
instruction aligned with evolving demand. They are instrumental in embracing sustainable design/creation practices, including those informed
by circular economy principles.
The incumbent will participate in departmental, college, and university level affairs and governance.
Service in support of industry, academic organizations, and other professional groups and associations is required.

Key Responsibilities
75% – Instruction/Teaching:Teach
and/or develop approximately 22 credits per year, which may include graduate-level courses. Teaching assignments and modalities will adjust
to reflect instructional needs, including on-campus and online (Ecampus) courses, instruction in the new Professional Science Masters in
Wood Innovation for Sustainability, and potential continuing education courses. As assigned, recruit, supervise, support, mentor, and serve
as major advisor for MS and PhD students. Mentor undergraduate students and provide opportunities for their involvement in conducting
research, design experimentation, or skill training to help foster professional development and placement.
15% –
Research/Scholarship:Conduct research and scholarship. Research and scholarship are likely to be pedagogical but may also relate to
wood-based arts, product design or aesthetics. Synthesize and communicate results of this research/scholarship through outlets including
refereed journals, juried exhibitions, public art, collaborative art, books and book chapters, scientific, artistic and professional
meetings, professional magazines, and professional workshops.
10% – Service:Participate in departmental, college,
and university level affairs and governance, including leadership in curriculum and program development. Service is also expected in support
of industry, academic and professional organizations, facilitating student-industry interface and other professional groups and
associations.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the
incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010
et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24
months.
