EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time, 9 month tenure track
PRIMARY DUTY: The Department of Fine and
Performing Arts at Northwest Missouri State
University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in
Instrumental Music Education and Applied Woodwinds (single reeds or flute preferred) beginning August 2024. The successful candidate will
teach music education coursework and maintain an applied studio. Other teaching duties will be assigned per department need and the
candidate’s expertise, including the possibility of ensemble leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Teach
coursework as described above.
2. Actively recruit students for the music program.
3. Serve on committees as assigned.
4. Maintain a high level of scholarly/creative activity.
5. Perform additional duties by departmental need.
6. Hold seven
office hours/week.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Terminal degree in Music or Music Education (ABD considered if completed
by Aug. ’24).
2. Experience teaching applied woodwinds (doubler preferred).
3. A consistent record of scholarly/creative
activity.
4. Experience recruiting potential music majors.
5. A minimum of three years K-12 public school teaching
experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Collaborative academic environment in a Fine and Performing Arts Department at a
regional, comprehensive university. Faculty use Canvas, an online learning management system, and are provided a laptop computer.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: laptop computer, software/online
course and information management systems as needed, university instruments.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to
lift and carry 20 pounds.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Fine and Performing Arts is home to three disciplines: Art, Music (NASM accredited), and
Theatre. The Department places a high focus on excellence in teaching, providing a high degree of interaction between faculty and students,
as well as serving as a cultural hub for the region. The music area offers degrees in music (BA in Music with choice of emphasis areas in
Audio Production, Business, and Wellness), and music education (BME – Instrumental, Vocal, or Extended Certification). The music program
