The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Vaccine Research Center (VRC) conducts research that facilitates the development of effective vaccines and monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of infectious diseases, such as HIV, influenza, malaria, Zika, Ebola, and SARS-CoV-2. The VRC Clinical Trials Program (CTP) includes clinicians, protocol specialists, research nurses, study coordinators, data specialists, and other support staff. The CTP conducts proof-of-concept, phase 1 clinical research studies to assess the safety and immunogenicity of first-in-human vaccines and monoclonal antibodies. The CTP is comprised of approximately 50 people and initiates 3 – 5 clinical trials per year in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center. The CTP also maintains and oversees collaborations and contracts with academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and nonprofit organizations who evaluate VRC products.
The CTP/VRC is soliciting applications for two staff clinician (physician) positions to serve as a principal or associate investigator of phase 1 trials evaluating vaccines or monoclonal antibodies against a variety of infectious diseases. The staff clinician will work closely with the CTP chief and other VRC staff in clinical trial design, protocol development, clinical trial operations, and oversight.
