LECTURER, Comparative Media Studies/Writing, to teach communication within collaboratively-taught communication-intensive classes primarily in STEM subjects; work with disciplinary faculty and other WRAP (writing, rhetoric, and professional communication) lecturers to develop pedagogy, instruction, and assignments that teach the rhetorical principles of written and oral communication; and evaluate and respond to student communication assignments in a variety of contexts and provide guidance to faculty and TAs for evaluating and responding to student communication assignments. A full-time teaching load is the equivalent of three classes per term.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: master’s degree in rhetoric, composition, or technical/professional writing; three years’ teaching experience; experience teaching technical communication, preferably in the context of writing across the curriculum (WAC) and writing within the disciplines (WID); comfort with highly technical subject matter and an understanding of the principles of effectively communicating technical material for multiple audiences; and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, TAs, and administrative staff. PREFERRED: Ph.D; familiarity with rhetoric and WAC/WID pedagogy; and experience with assignment design, oral communication instruction, and/or visual rhetoric. Job #21410
