Title: Communications Coordinator – Health Equity

Limited Term – 1 year – Extension Possible
Location: Remote/Virtual – Must Be a Michigan Resident
Purpose: The Communications Coordinator – Health Equity will oversee OEMH communication needs and manage day-to-day communications operations. This position will directly assist the Office of Equity and Minority Health (OEMH) in conducting a wide range of professional communications including writing, designing, and editing content. The position will receive guidance from and collaborate with the MDHHS Communications Office. This position will provide subject-matter expertise on cultural and linguistic appropriate communication strategies to internal stakeholders and contracted organizations. This position with work with the Grant Manager to develop and maintain a mechanism for the creation and execution of paid, earned, digital and social media campaigns for the Regional Health Equity Advisory Councils, COVID racial disparities efforts, and other OEMH/REDI equity communications needs. This position is responsible for social media planning, measurement of communications reach analytics, and reports as required by funder and/or OEMH Leader upon request.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations, or a related field of public health and health promotion. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Three years of professional experience post bachelor’s degree in an equivalent position of this type. Two years of content creation, social media management, health communications, content expertise around Equity and Cultural Competency preferred.
Important Skills and Characteristics:
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: OEMH staff currently work remotely on a permanent basis. Hybrid options are available. Some in-person meetings. Routine physical activities: standing, sitting for extended periods of time at a computer, walking, reaching, and bending. Occasional physical activities: stooping, lifting, and carrying. Requires valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position. Frequent deadlines. In-state travel for training and/or meetings and out-of-state travel for responsibilities related to funding and duties.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility.
IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position directly impacts the quality of products, and the performance of project teams. Competent performance in this position has a substantial impact on the integrity and professional reputation of OEMH including meeting the needs of stakeholders in a timely manner and maintaining professional relationships.
