The Patient Account Representative position supports the reduction of Accounts Receivables by reviewing open accounts, and obtaining payment status via payer websites or by contacting payers by phone. The Representative performs a variety of duties including correspondence response, rebilling, certain denial issues and daily reconciliation of activities. The Representative meets established productivity and quality guidelines to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for all billed charges. The Representative is responsible for reducing AR aging within the assigned payer and assigned section of the AR. This position is responsible for making certain that the hospital receives all monies due in a timely manner.

Responsibilities A day in the life of Patient Account Representative at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Review end of month aged trial to calculate outstanding insurance balances. Communicates any discrepancies to leadership for review.
• Idenitfy reason for denials on claims. Communicate with payors to resolve denial cases.
• Collaborate with various internal Hackensack Meridian Health teams to capture additional information to ensure optimal payment.
• Process all rejected and suspended claims in Nthrive/Xclaim claim scrubber.
• Participate in additional departmental projects as assigned.

Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience working within healthcare or patient financial services.
• Strong communication skills; comfort with phone calls and emails with both internal teams and external insurance companies
• Strong time management, organizational, and technological skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• 3 years of healthcare billing experience in a hospital setting is preferred. In lieu of billing experience we are willing to substitute with an Associates/Bachelor’s Degree.
