Performs basic and advanced polysomnography, and related tasks. Scores and processes report to interpreting physician. Assists in troubleshooting, upgrading, and maintaining sleep disorders centers equipment assists with quality assurance and provides input with product evaluation. Provides patient care from ages pediatric through geriatric. May assist with staffing training as directed by Clinical Coordinator. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
Education:
Must possess adequate understanding of all equipment used in sleep studies and be able to troubleshoot as necessary. Must be able to detect and correct problems/artifacts in sleep records. Must be able to independently conduct patient hookups and equipment calibration.
Registration by the board of registered Polysomnographic technologists (BRPT) is required.
Must be able to score all parameters of a sleep record at an acceptable level of reliability.
Must be BLS certified through the American Heart Association.
Must be able to operate computers at a basic level required for digital acquisition, analysis and storage of records.
Must have interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and explain procedures to patients and their families.
Must be able to take patient temperature, weight, height, and blood pressure.
