This RN will be responsible for educating the Surgical Team which included non nursing associates.

JOB SUMMARY:

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to facilitate education/training, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of all employees’ education needs and/or oversees population specific education needs; participates in the departmental performance improvement process in order to ensure competent nursing care, quality customer service and cost-effectiveness

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, implements and evaluates department-specific and/or population-specific education needs based on management input, risk evaluations and learning needs assessments and develops competency programs to address gaps; develops orientation for newly hired staff in department; maintains employee education files; identifies needs for patient education; facilitates the development and availability of patient educational materials; participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of regional education programs, as needed; serves on both departmental and regional education councils
Participates in the selection of preceptors and guides the preceptors in their role development; acts as a resource to nursing facility and students
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Ohio Nursing Practice Act and Mercy Health policies and procedures

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (MUST NOT BE NON-EXPIRED/ACTIVE UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED)

Required: Current valid nursing license in the State of Ohio

BLS, ACLS, PALS and any other unit specific certification requirement.

Preferred: Hold national certification in clinical specialty or leadership within 6 months of eligibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Years and Type of Experience: One year of clinical nursing experience in specialty area demonstrating examples of professional development of peers, including, but not limited to, charge nurse experience, preceptor experience, shared leadership experience, education plan development, etc.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Two years of clinical nursing experience preferred; one year of previous charge nurse of shift lead experience preferred

This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills for patients in identified disease-specific and age-specific populations served, understanding that departures from identified categories may be required at times to perpetuate positive clinical outcomes
