Tift College seeks an Instructor of Teacher Education with experience and credentials in Elementary or Middle
Grades Education, with content expertise in mathematics, literacy and/or science to supervise student school-based field experiences, teach
classes, and provide professional service supporting the College’s Teacher Education programs.
Responsibilities:
The
Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to
teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this
mission, Tift College seeks an Instructor of Teacher Education with experience and credentials in Elementary or Middle Grades, with content
expertise in mathematics, literacy and/or science to supervise student school-based field experiences, teach classes, and provide
professional service supporting the College’s Teacher Education programs. Professional service activities will encompass the hire’s primary
responsibilities and include the academic advising of teacher education students. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Atlanta Teacher
Education and Educational Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed at the Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta and work with
students across the two campuses and two centers at which Tift College programs are offered. The position is a 9-month appointment, with the
opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful
candidate will provide academic advising for teacher education students of all levels through the development and monitoring of academic
plans and facilitate student progression and graduation by maintaining students’ advising records, registering students for classes, and
completing students’ degree audits and degree certification. It is also expected that the successful candidate will supervise student field
experiences and teach in-person, online, and blended courses in the College’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Bachelor of Science in
Education (BSEd) initial certification programs.
Qualifications:
Required:
Earned master’s
degree in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited college or
university
Evidence of at least 3 years of successful Elementary or Middle School teaching experience in an area of
mathematics, literacy, or science
Commitment to supporting student success through academic advising
Evidence
of experiences with diverse school populations and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy
Evidence of experience
developing and delivering high-quality instruction in an online or blended format, both synchronous and asynchronous
Superior
interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
Ability to support a culture of collaboration,
inclusion, equity, and diversity
Preferred:
Earned doctoral degree in Elementary Education, Middle
Grades Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
Evidence of
successful university-level teaching (e.g., graduate teaching assistant, adjunct, etc.)
Experience as a mentor teacher or
instructional coach, supporting the development of novice teachers or pre-service teacher candidates
Fluency in spoken and
written Spanish
