Position description
The chaplain provides spiritual counsel, comfort and pastoral ministry to the spiritual needs of patients and families as assigned. This individual provides a pastoral perspective when consulting with staff, patients and families regarding ethical, moral or personal issues. The chaplain is skilled in crisis and bereavement counseling and is an active participant in interdisciplinary patient care team. This individual promotes a healing environment enhancing spiritual and mental health for both patients and staff. The chaplain’s duties include providing sacraments / rituals from many faith traditions of patients, relatives and staff as requested. May require being an Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA) after the conclusion of training. This person may serve in advance care planning role after training. This individual must demonstrate a cultural knowledge and knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the lifespan. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs is required. In addition, the chaplain supports leadership through activities that includes development of staff, teaching, community involvement, and participation in research as appropriate. Must be available to work flexible hours which can include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends with on-call required.
Qualifications
Masters Theological degree from an accredited seminary of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Minimum of four units Clinical Pastoral Education from an Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) approved center with the exception of faith group specific applicants for whom CPE is not required. In these cases, the applicant must complete four ACPE units within two years of hire and become Board Certified within four years of hire. An applicant or a current ACPE Resident with three completed units of Clinical Pastoral Education must complete the fourth CPE Unit within 1 year of hire.
Additional qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Computer skills required, EMR experience preferred. Two years working experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
License or certification
Endorsement for service as a Chaplain by affiliated faith body required. Board Certification Chaplain preferred, or certified within 3 years of hire in a national professional association that requires fulfillment of minimum of 4 units of ACPE accredited CPE Training is required.
